Murray Grove has special importance for Unitarian Universalists. However, we reach out to individuals and groups of all kinds. We are located near Barnegat Bay and close to the New Jersey coast, 90 minutes’ drive south of New York City and about the same distance east of Philadelphia, Murray Grove Retreat and Renewal Center, a private, non-profit organization, occupies twenty lovely partially-wooded acres. Adjoining it is 200 acres of the Edwin B. Forsythe Wildlife Preserve, with nature trails leading through woods to the wetlands on Barnegat Bay, encompassing several ecosystems. We’re open all year. Our 20-acre partially wooded campus includes: • Lodge with Fireside Room and fireplace, dining room, kitchen, office • Screen House for outdoor meetings and events • Barbecue Grills • Cone House with meeting/program space • Weakley House lodging (accommodates up to 22) • Friedrich House lodging (accommodates up to 20) • Courtyard • Fire Circle • Salt water (Outside) pool • 11-circuit labyrinth • Large athletic field with play structure • Walking trails in the wildlife preserve immediately adjacent • Universalist National Cemetery • Potter Memorial Chapel sited in the old Good Luck Cemetery next door to Murray Grove • A Universalist history of over 240 years. We are easy to get to – 15 minutes south of Toms River at exit 74 or 77 off of the Garden State Parkway. Murray Grove is a peaceful place that allows guests to disconnect from the concerns of their everyday lives and concentrate fully on what brings them here. We’re open to all, year-round, and we invite you to contact us with your questions and requests for information. Murray Grove Retreat and Renewal Center is owned and operated by the Murray Grove Association, a private, non-profit 501(c)(3) organization.

We are deeply grateful for the Union Women Electricians who Volunteered at Murray Grove this weekend! Angel Savoy recruited Jazzmen Goods, Crystal Kaliszewski (with amazing son Jayce) and Brenda Savoy to volunteer their expert skills to upgrade some of the center’s electrical systems and babysit Jayce. Rev. Craig Hirshberg shared her gifts and facilitated the weekend with workshops. Board President Dominick DePinto offered his expertise and supported their efforts. Chef Evelyn prepared delicious meals. Share s’mores around the roaring campfire last night (thank you Bob Seidel) was a highlight for Jayce. Next Spring Angel Savoy, a Master Electrician, National Electric Code Instructor, and member of International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 26 and her mother, Brenda Savoy, President of Chesapeake Bay Chapter of Coalition of Labor Union Women, are hoping to demonstrate to young women who are in middle or high school, young women stuck in dead end jobs, and women looking for a second career that the construction trades can offer a well-paying and rewarding career. Statistics show that women in the trades can make an average of 94% of their equal pay for men, whereas the norm is now at 81%. By showcasing women who are already in the trades they hope to increase awareness that women are welcome to apply. When Angel and Brenda attended the Women’s Retreat at Murray Grove last November, they were impressed with the program and by the loving spirit of the place. However, with their trained eyes, they saw that Murray Grove could use some expert upgrading of the electrical systems. They then conceived of this volunteer effort and spoke to Louise Illé, Murray Grove’s Executive Director, who was thrilled with the plan. It was a successful weekend, we truly appreciate all of their support!
Want to do something worthwhile and have some fun? We’re looking for volunteers to help out at Homecoming: “UNIVERSAL GOOD: SOCIAL & ENVIRONMENTAL JUSTICE” on Saturday, September 28th. Volunteer opportunities include staffing our Beer Garden, helping with registration, parking, photography, stage hands, and family activities. Meet new friends and support a good cause! A camp needs counselors! We're so grateful to the talented youth that provide leadership and loving support to our campers. Many of the counselors "grew up" at Camping in the Grove. They are our greatest camp ambassadors!

Camping in the Grove is in full swing! Yesterday our wonderful campers made s’mores, learned about animals, re-claming, rain gardens,rain barrels and rain chains. With camp helpers Rev. Carol Haag led our daily worship . Fun was had in our salt water pool, Gaga Court, arts & craft tables and book nook.
We highly recommend subscribing to the Universalist Herald, the oldest continuously published liberal religious magazine in North America. We’re honored that the Universalist Convocation 2019 was held at Murray Grove this year! Check out the attendees on the cover.
